Can Thiourea Dioxide Reduce the Chemical Consumption?

2026-09-16

Potentially, yes. The correct calculation is chemical cost per tonne of fabric, rather than chemical price per kg.

For example, assume sodium hydrosulfite = US$1.20/kg and Thiourea Dioxide = US$2.00/kg. A factory currently uses 4 kg hydrosulfite per tonne of fabric, i.e. 4 × $1.20 = $4.80/tonne.

If Thiourea Dioxide achieves the same result at 2 kg/tonne, then 2 × $2.00 = $4.00/tonne.

Despite Thiourea Dioxide being 67% more expensive per kg, the chemical cost is actually 17% lower per tonne of fabric.

This is why we recommend a cost-per-tonne trial, not a simple price-per-kg comparison.
