Product Description
THIOUREA DIOXIDE is a high-efficiency, eco-friendly reducing agent and the green alternative to traditional sodium hydrosulfite (sodium dithionite). It is used for reduction clearing, color stripping and general textile equipment cleaning, as well as in paper and pulp bleaching, synthetic fiber manufacturing and kaolin processing.

Properties
Thiourea Dioxide is an odorless white powder known for its excellent chemical stability. It is safe to handle under ambient conditions. It has a solubility of 26.7 g/L in water at 20 °C, with a saturated solution pH of 5.0. While it remains very stable in aqueous solutions at 20–30 °C, it gradually decomposes to form sulfinic acid under thermal and alkaline conditions, exerting its reducing power.
Compared with traditional sodium dithionite (hydrosulfite), thiourea dioxide has:
- Stronger reducing capability — maximum reduction potential is approximately −1230 mV for thiourea dioxide versus −1080 mV for hydrosulfite;
- Outstanding thermal stability — thiourea dioxide is safe and stable at room temperature, while hydrosulfite is flammable upon contact with moisture;
- Low odor and an operator-friendly working environment — thiourea dioxide is essentially odorless in use, whereas hydrosulfite has an offensive smell;
- Reduced harmful emissions during storage and operation, making it an ideal eco-friendly replacement for hydrosulfite across multiple key sectors.
Core Application Fields
- Textile Printing & Dyeing — for vat dyeing, sulfur dyeing, wool & silk bleaching, reduction cleaning for disperse dyes, color stripping and vat cleaning. It delivers uniform whiteness without damaging fiber texture, greatly improving color fastness of finished fabrics.
- Paper & Pulp Industry — applied in mechanical pulp bleaching and waste paper deinking. It efficiently removes chromophores while preserving pulp viscosity, boosting paper brightness and tensile strength with mild fiber damage.
- Synthetic Fiber Manufacturing — functions as a stabilizer and reducing auxiliary to prevent fiber yellowing, optimize polymerization processes and enhance the quality of polyester, polyamide and other synthetic fibers.
- Kaolin Processing — used for reductive bleaching of kaolin clay to eliminate iron impurities, raising whiteness of kaolin for high-end paper coating, ceramic and filler production.
