THIOUREA DIOXIDE is a very stable, highly effective, odourless reducing agent. Compared to hydrosulphite, THIOUREA DIOXIDE develops its full reducing effect only at temperatures above 70 °C and in the presence of alkalis (this may be proved with vat paper).
Solutions of THIOUREA DIOXIDE free of alkali are almost stable for up to 6 hours at room temperature. Under optimum conditions, THIOUREA DIOXIDE is a strong reducing agent and at least 3 times more effective than hydrosulphite.
APPLICATION
Reductive final or intermediate cleaning of disperse dyeing or printings on polyester or polyester/ cotton
Stripping of defective dyeings
Bleaching of polyamide
Machine Cleaning
Further applications
THIOUREA DIOXIDE is an effective reducing agent for dyeing cotton or cotton blends with sulphur dyestuffs. Furthermore, THIOUREA DIOXIDE can be used instead of sodium dithionite when dyeing with vat dyes according to the pad-steam-process. However, this can cause hue errors, thus making it necessary to correct the dye formulations.
Regarding the application of the additionally mentioned products, please note the corresponding technical data sheets.
DILUTIONINSTRUCTION
Approx. 25 g/l of THIOUREA DIOXIDE can be dissolved in water of 20 °C.
In the strongly caustic alkaline range up to 100 g/l of THIOUREA DIOXIDE may be dissolved at 20 °C. However, these alkaline solutions are comparatively unstable.
Stock solutions of THIOUREA DIOXIDE should be prepared with cold water. Caustic soda should only be added shortly before use.
STORAGE
THIOUREA DIOXIDE remains stable for at least 6 months if stored cool and dry in a tightly closed container. Do not store above 25 °C and keep away from oxidants, metal salts and alkalis.
